This week’s meeting was at the Peace Pavilion and we were fortunate to have fabulous weather.  Thank you to Chris, Scott, Tara, Josh, Paula, Kristal, Lori and anyone else I forgot, for helping to set-up and clean-up.  Our District Governor was visiting and he was VERY impressed with the beauty of our Peace Pavilion, the Boardwalk and the natural setting.

Following the Pledge and Four-way test, Rachelle Sumner shared a thought for the day.  She asked that we make it a special day for us and someone else by doing a good deed for someone, thank you Rachelle.  We welcomed two visiting Rotarians, in addition to the District Governor and a few guests.

Ellen reminded us to save our Rotarian magazines and bring them to a meeting.  Once we are done reading them, we disperse them in various locations throughout our community, so others will learn about what we do.  Also, she is taking orders for pavers for the Peace Pavilion.  The application can be found on-line, but if you have questions, do not hesitate to email her.

In the final days of July, we matched donations from members to the local Foundation and exceeded our $5,000 limit (by a few dollars).  Thank you to all that took advantage of this opportunity and we will be presenting a number of new Jack Black Fellows in the next month.

Lori Livingston was presented with Rotarian of the Month.  Lori has been a quiet volunteer, spending hours on organizing programs and off-site Club meetings, working on the Barn Dance Committee raising funds, brainstorming Peace Pole ideas and much more.  Thank you Lori for your commitment to Rotary and our Club.

District Governors Chuck Rutenberg assisted us in presenting two Paul Harris Awards.  The first award went to Scott Marr for his Paul Harris times six.  The second award went to Rich Gloor which was his Paul Harris times four, the last two since he has been a member of our Club.  Thank you both for your generosity to the Rotary International Foundation.

We celebrated birthdays of Brian Small, Kris Hammond, Ron Thom and Joe Tater.  Kris was the only birthday boy in attendance so in his honor, we asked him to do Good News.

Today, August 10th, we are officially 44 years old as a Club.  We met at the Peace Pavilion on Tuesday to celebrate our Anniversary as has been our recent tradition.  We celebrated at the Peace Pavilion in 2014, however construction was not quite complete.  Dedication of the beautiful structure was actually in August of 2015, so in addition to having a 44 year old club, we have a 3 year old Peace Pavilion.  Cupcakes all around!

District Governor Chuck Rutenberg was introduced and he shared his vision for the year.  DG Chuck spoke about the “why” we are in Rotary and the difference between that and the “what” and “how”.   His desire to inspire President’s and members in the District, coincidentally, the theme for the year from RI President is “Be the Inspiration”.    He emphasized the importance of “member experience” in retaining members.  He talked about Literacy here at home and some training that will be coming up for the District membership in October.  DG Chuck threw out some ideas on how to involve Interact, RYLA and the youth to begin to develop the future of Rotary.  In his casual style he answered a number of questions from our members.

We completed our meeting with Good News.

We will see you next week back at The Grand for the Rx Panel.  This will be a meeting you do not want to miss and we anticipate a number of guests.  If you are bringing guests, maybe shoot Lori an email so we can get a closer count for lunch.

Thank you and have a great weekend,

Carol Johnson
