Board Report - August 2012

We had a very short board meeting in August - items of note include:

Bill Kennedy noted that the club is very close to reaching the goal of $300,000 in the club's endowment at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. (Way to go everyone!)  Existing club policy states that once the endowment reaches $300,000 that the club will spend the interest/earnings generated by the principal, up to 5% of the total assets each year, on grants and scholarships.  The club's 2012-2013 budget implements this policy and includes using $15,000 in dollars from the endowment for community grants, international grants, and scholarships.  The board will set a new 5 year goal for the endowment at an upcoming meeting.

The club's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the BLM regarding Rotary Trail has been executed and posted on clubrunner.  All club members have access to the document - just sign in to club runner and follow the "club documents" link on the middle left menu bar.  Many thanks to Jim Moylan for his work on this effort.

John Holloway reported that he is starting the process of working with the City to get a written agreement between the club and the City regarding Rotary Park and the boardwalk.  Paula Cooper Black wrote up a history of the park and the relationship with the City that will be posted on clubrunner in the near future. 

The youth exchange programs has kicked into high gear with students Vini and Diana arriving this month. Lynaia South is still looking for one more host family, so if you know of anyone that might be interested in hosting either student, please let Lynaia know. 

It was noted that the club's agreement with the Grand is that we can cancel meetings at the Grand with no penalty, and also that the Grand can ask us to meet elsewhere on weeks that they need to book our meeting room.  This has worked well for both the Grand and the Club and has helped us to keep our costs lower than they otherwise would be.  Our meetings on October 2, October 9, January 1 and January 8 will be held at other locations - more information will be provided in Kristal Eckley's weekly program emails.

Angela Catterson noted that she was in the process of doing the August billings, which will be sent out via email in the next week or two.  If for some reason you have not been receiving your quarterly invoices, please check with Angela, as we'd like to ensure that everyone gets that.  Our receivables have been creeping upward, which is not great.

The next board meeting will be on September 10th at Rex's.  Everyone is welcome to attend and if you'd like to present something to the board or have a question or issue for the board to address, please let me know.
