THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Thanks to Karen McRight for a very appropriate, short and sweet “Thought for Day” about giving service.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Rotary’s 111th Anniversary was Tuesday! We acknowledged how one man, Paul Harris, and 3 of his business friends created a club that now numbers 1.2 million members, with over 33,000 clubs in 200 countries. Congratulations Rotary and all of us who are honored to belong!
Ski Day is March 15th with a short meeting. John Holloway and John Kuhn will provide more details as day approaches. Hoping everyone can attend, either to ski or come to an après gathering.
PROGRAM: “Prescription Drugs: The Dangerous Truth.” This was a very informative and impactful program, conducted by 5 people from the Routt County Rx Task Force: Ken Davis, Director of Community Integration, VNA, Dr. Dave Wilkinson, ER- YVMC, Hunter Weatherly, Pharmacist, YVMC, Sherriff Garret Wiggins, and Buck Chavarria, Director of Steamboat SK8 Church. There were many shocking statistics, important truths and “wake-up calls” regarding the serious opiate addiction problem we have in virtually every age group in our County, that too often begins with the use, misuse and access of prescription opiates. The Rx Task Force is seeking to educate everyone about this widespread problem and to create community wide solutions. Judging by the number of questions from the audience and the comments about the program afterwards, this was time very well spent for both the speakers and our Club. For those who wish to become more involved or to share some information with others, I have attached two documents given by the Rx Task Force: A poster with upcoming event dates and a prescription information document.
Thank you to Heather Martyn for bringing us this program and to the RxTask Force for sharing this critical information.
GOOD NEWS: We did not do “Good News” in order to give plenty of time to our program speakers. Be ready for a good one next week!
NEXT WEEK’S PROGRAM: Two Classification Talks: Scott Wither and Tony Counts – looking forward to these!
Respectfully submitted,
Ellen Kendall, Club President
