GREETERS:
Thanks to the
Karen McRight and Jim Clark for serving as greeters and to Karen for introducing our guests.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Thanks to John Holloway who combined a “Thought for the Day”  about being good followers with a description of our last week’s ski day.  Certainly Rotarians were being good followers that day?!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Rotary Direct:  If you would like to do online contributions for the RI Foundation, let Ellen know.  We are trying it out with several members to see how efficient it is.

Club Photo:  Changed from this week to next week.  We will end early so as not to keep people beyond our meeting ending time (or close to it!)

STEAMBOAT MINUTE:  Meg Morse, Head of School, Steamboat Mountain School, a boarding and day college prep school; small in size, big in opportunity like the Global Immersion Studies which provides for each student by graduation 4 months in 4 countries in 4 continents.    Cheryl Krumrie, Sales Coordinator, Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club, a shared ranch community for people who want to be 5 minutes from Steamboat while living the ranch lifestyle - 1, 216 acres and 63 homesites!

PROGRAM:   Dave Talbot, Founder, Crutches4Africa.   Dave is a Rotarian from the Mountain Foothills Club in Evergreen, CO and friend of our club for many years.  He shared with us his very personal story of how he has “been there, done that” from surviving polio and living an athletic adventuresome life to now facing the challenge of post-polio syndrome, where he once again needs crutches.   Dave and his wife, Candice, are amazing proof that passionate and committed individuals can have a huge impact on the world.  They have so far collected and delivered, nearly 78,000 used mobility devices to countries in Africa.  Dave described, through slides and stories, the profound impact these mobility devices have upon those with disabilities.  What a gift these devices are!  And what a gift are Dave and Candice for the work they are doing!  Dave challenged us to wake each day for a month and  “give thanks for our own mobility.”    And that makes the timing very close to when we will conduct our Crutches 4Africa Drive (May 5-8) chaired by Rachelle Summers.  So check out your own closets, as well as those of your family, neighbors and friends…for crutches, braces, canes, wheelchairs, walkers, knee pads, bicycle and baby joggers, and even ski poles!  More details as the drive date approaches and let Rachelle know if you would like to help with the drive.

GOOD NEWSThank you to John Holloway for doing Good News which had lots of good reflections on Ski Day.

NEXT WEEK’S PROGRAM:  BEER – from our own Brewmeister, Mark Fitzgerald and Label Aficionado, Steve Sehnert.   Samples included with talk!

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Kendall, Club President
