THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Thank you, Lori Livingston for doing a great job of “winging it” as she asked us to disregard the pending snow storm and think thoughts about spring and new beginnings. Nicely done!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Rotary Direct: If you would like to do online contributions for the RI Foundation, let Ellen know. We are trying it out with several members to see how efficient it is.
Club Photo: Good show for the photo (maybe the beer helped?) Thank you John Russell, from the Steamboat Pilot, who always gets every single face in the photo.
Rotary Grants Application April 1: Jeremy Behling, Chair of the Grants Committee, reminded us the application deadline for the next round of our club grants is April 1st. Grants must help to improve the quality of life of seniors and youth in and around Steamboat Springs. Jeremy urged everyone to pass the word to any potential grantees and contact him if questions.
Ski Town Classic: Jackie Brown, Chair of Ski Town Classic Committee, asked us to Save the Dates: Registration at Alpine Bank Friday, June 10, Golf at Catamount Saturday, June 11th followed by a reception at Strings (a new location!)
District Conference: Deadline for early registration (save $50) is April 1st for the District Conference in Jackson Hole, WY May 19 – 21. It would be great to have a caravan of members attending – especially new members. It’s a good way to really appreciate the breadth and depth of not only our District’s activities, also Rotary International. Rooms at Jackson Lake Lodge (special rate of $139) are going fast. PROGRAM:
How do you spell great program: B-E-E-R! It was super fun as Mark Fitzgerald, member and owner of Butcherknife Brewery shared, with his usual enthusiasm, a bit of the history of beer making, the steps to making beer, and the state of craft brewing in the country and Colorado. He offered us a lunchtime treat of one of his best selling and original beers, Robs’ Blonde. Mark was followed by Steve Sehnert, member and beer label collector (he admitted it was an obsession!) Steve shared just a few of his favorites from his 6,000 labels and also some labels with particular significance, asking us to “guess the member” the label resembled. We did a pretty good job of guessing! What is more impressive? The collection or that Steve drank the beer from every bottle label he has collected? Thanks to both Mark and Steve!
GOOD NEWS: Thank you to Eric Rabesa for doing Good News which was filled with the usual fun and sometimes long narratives (not to be named!)
NEXT WEEK’S PROGRAM: Club Foundation and Giving Celebration, with at least one surprise guest and a special incentive to be there!
