FOR THOSE ROTARIANS WHO MISSED THE MEETING ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2014.
Tuesday, October 14, 2014 marked the day we would receive our annual visit from District 5440, District Governor, Phil Murphy and his wife, Sara. Phil’s talk was inspiring. Phil talked about his involvement in Rotary, and how he understands Rotary has the power to change lives. Phil talked about the “relevance” of Rotary as we move forward and our very real need as an International Organization to address membership recruitment and retention. There is no question that Phil has a deep passion for Rotary and he shared it with us in meaningful ways. Thank you so much Phil and Sara for gracing us with your presence and insights. We are much appreciative.
Thank you to Geneva Taylor who served as our Greeter and introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians. Special recognition to our Assistant Governor, Randy Looper for his participation in the events of the day.
PJ Wharton gave us the Thought for the Day and immediate Past President, Scott Marr took care of Good News. We netted $208.00 for our Scholarship Program.
We take the occasion of the second meeting of each month to recognize Club Member’s Anniversaries. The following October: “Jolly Good Rotarians,” were recognized for their years of service in our Club: Jeremy Behling (6 years), Dan Callahan (8 years), Kristal Eckley (3 years), Ian Engle (1 year), Steve Frasier (14 years), Brian Harrington (9 years), Suzie Hawkins, (15 years), Ellen Kendall, (13 years), Holly Larson (8 years), Sharon Mensing, (3 years) Peter Perhac (3 years) and Eric Rabesa (2 years).
John Kuhn invited all Rotarians to the Routt County Gun Club for the skeet/clay shoot and fellowship social on Thursday, October 16, 2014 circa 3:30 pm. Paul Hebert updated us on the international projects we are involved in. Gillian Morris reminded us of our presentation to the middle school on the Four Way Test, in the morning on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, (no Club luncheon meeting that day.)
Jenny Wall distributed the Peace Pavilion shirts, which look great, by the way. We gifted Peace Pavilion shirts to Phil and Sara Murphy. Thank you Jenny for your outstanding work on that aspect of the Rotary Peace Pavilion Project. Coleman Cook reminded us of some: “before the snow flies” work that needs to be done at the Peace Pavilion. Please let Coleman know if you can pitch in.
Cam Boyd announced that we will soon be distributing our dictionaries to the third graders in Routt County. Please volunteer in that effort. Scheduling is very flexible. Randy Rudasics has come up with an alternative for: “sugar packets” for Good News.
Lynaia South announced that the deadline for submitting Exchange Student Applications for our out-going High School Students from Steamboat Springs High School has been extended.
Next Meeting – Tuesday, October 21, 2014, Noon at: “The Grand.” We will observe Polio Awareness month and hear from our Program Headliners- Sebastian (“Seba”) Camargo, our Foreign Exchange Student from Argentina and out-going Summer Exchange Student from Steamboat Springs High School, Margaret Lichtenfels.
