FOR THOSE ROTARIANS WHO MISSED THE MEETING – December 8, 2015

GREETERS:  Thanks to Eric Rabesa and Rachelle Summers for serving as greeters and to Eric for doing our introductions.  

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  Lori Livingston gave us the Thought for the Day with a gratitude theme, encouraging us to be grateful for what we have and to give to others during today’s Colorado Gives Day.

 

 

Rotary Action:  A reminder to pick up several copies of our Rotary Action and spread them around office locations around town.   

 

Holiday Community Tubing Party – Dec. 13^th  4:00 – 7:00 pm   Dillon Fulcher completed our volunteer sign ups.   Thanks to everyone who signed up prior and to those who raised their hands for the open spots.  It’s going to be a great event and we look forward to everyone to showing up for their volunteer duties!  Right Dillon?

 

Agua Prieta:  Kris Hammond announced our participation of 8 Interact students and 10 Rotarians.  Tara Weaver passed around a sign up sheet for donations to purchase the gifts which will be distributed by our Interact students to several orphanages in Agua Prieta.  This replaces our former gift exchange within our club.  If you missed the sheet and want to contribute (most at $25) please let Tara know.  

 

Holiday Club Party – December 15^th at 5:00 pm at Vaquero’s (downstairs)  No noon meeting on the 15^th!   Hope everyone can make it to the party! 

 

Designated Drivers for Holiday Party and Fundraiser for Interact Club:  No need to drive when you should not!   Interact students have organized a fundraiser that will give any Rotarian a ride home from the party.  More details shared in an email from Lynaia South.

 

Singing at Casey’s Pond, Tuesday, 12/15 at Noon:  Debbie Aragon invited us for this annual singing for the residents of Casey’s Pond.   Our singing will be enhanced by Emerald Mountain School students and Jim Nowak’s accordion!   See you all there – bring holiday hats to add to the festivities!

 

Thanks to all who remembered to bring holiday gift supplies for YPN’s wrapping of United Way’s Holiday Bazaar gifts.   

 

High School Career Interviews:  Marci Valicenti passed around a sign-up sheet to help with this important volunteer opportunity at SSHS in January.  Students do a mock job interview with a Rotarian.  This is one of those things: It's a very gratifying service opportunity.  Good for the student, good for the Rotarian!  

 

Rachelle Summers, Private Mortgage Banker at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, told through Darth Vader, “Luke and Rotarians, I am your lender” 

Past President Kris Hammond, Litigation Attorney for Cantafio Hammond Law, representing “the maimed, the shamed, the blamed, the framed and the untamed!” 

Past President Scott Marr, owner of Holiday Inn of Steamboat and partner in several lodging properties in Key West, FL. 

 

PROGRAM: 

Jim Boyne, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club:  Jim gave us a thorough and interesting presentation of where the SSWSC is today and their vision for the future, including a clear description of the partnerships needed amongst many constituencies – SSWSC, The City of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Ski Corp and the community at large.  We appreciated Jim’s time and learning about this impactful organization which has existed for 102 years!

 

Good News ($291) Thanks to Kris Hammond for his usual fun "Good News."  And to Paula Cooper Black for contributing some homemade raspberry jam, which was made as a thank you for John Center?  But the story continues.  Rachelle Summers raised her hand, then she and Karl Bunker had a bit of a bidding war – which was trumped by Jeremy Behling’s $100 donation.   And there’s more (A Rotary Moment!)   At the end of the meeting Jeremy walked over and gave Rachelle the jam!  Nice!
