FOR THOSE ROTARIANS WHO MISSED THE TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 2015 MEETING

Tom Ross, you are a gift to the Yampa Valley! Tom Ross, of the Steamboat Pilot & Today presented today’s Program: “Mountain Town Stories.”  Tom’s knowledge of the: history, culture, industry and people of the western United States, and specifically the Yampa Valley, is encyclopedic. It is deep and wide, poignant and humorous, uplifting and insightful. Tom is definitely a: “raconteur extraordinaire”! Thank you for sharing the history of the ski industry in the western states with us Tuesday afternoon. We were regaled with stories from: the Gondola, to the 10^th Mountain Division’s contribution to the development of our ski resorts and ski towns throughout the west, to the fashion industries manufacture of gabardine. Tom traversed all that ground with an interesting slide show and within less than 30 minutes! Tom, thank you so much again – great Program. Thank you to Winnie for setting up Tom’s Program.

Eric Rabesa and Glen Traylor served as our Greeters. Thank you to Eric and Glen for greeting our guests and fellow Rotarians, who Eric introduced. In the absence of a Rotarian to provide our Thought for the Day, Jim provided some: “Paraprosdokian Sentences,” (you can Google it) as a substitute.

We recognized the following Rotarians for their sponsorship of new members: Suzanne Schlicht (L2-Bronze), Brian Harvey (L1-Blue; L2-Bronze), Ellen Kendall (L3-Silver); and Mike Forney (L2-Bronze.) Thank each of you. The recruitment of new members is the life-blood of our Club and you keep us growing and vital – Thank You.

Mike Forney, Past Club President and Past District Governor, handled Good News for us on Tuesday – Thank you, Mike.

Katie Brown, Ren Martin and Loryn Kasten, from the Ski Town USA Rotary Club (Morning Club), announced and sought support for the Red Ball Express Fund-raiser on the mountain on Saturday, April 4, 2015. [Note – Our Interact Club and the Boys and Girls Club are beneficiaries. However, in order to assure that $5.00 of the $10.00 ticket price goes to those organizations, you must buy your ticket from them. Representatives of Interact and the Boys and Girls Club will be at next Tuesday’s meeting to sell tickets.]

Speaking of next Tuesday’s meeting, Tuesday, March 17, 2015 is our Annual Club Ski Day. John Holloway is Chairing that event and formed ski teams at the Meeting. Watch for more information from John on the Ski Day event, tomorrow via an e-mail on Club-runner.  Note, spouses and significant others are invited to ski and attend the après-ski party at Seven’s in the Steamboat Sheraton, where food will be provided and we will have a Cash Bar.

Please mark your calendars for March 18, 2015 at 8:00 pm at the Emerald Mountain School for Seba’s Bingo Night Fund-raiser, to defray the cost of his year-end trip with the other District 5440 Exchange Students. Thank you Tara for all your good help with that project.

District 5440 has asked us to take in 2 Exchange Students for the next Academic Year. Lynaia is Chairing the Youth Exchange Committee and needs some help with this. One Exchange Student requires three host families over the Academic Year. Two Exchange Students requires six host families. Please contact Lynaia if you can help. This is important.
