January Student of the Month - Shealie Jenkins
Shealie Jenkins is our student of the month for January 2013. David Entwistle, principle of Heritage Christian School, notes that Shealie is an outstanding student academically. His recommendation of Shealie follows:
"Shealie is one of the most conscientious, responsible, and hardworking students I have seen in my 25 years in administration. She currently has a GPA of 3.79 which attests to her strong ability. Over the past couple of years she has taken our most rigorous class load including the four AP classes that we have offered. I appreciate Seniors who choose to take on additional challenges academically as opposed to simply coasting and choosing the easy route.
Shealie has some strong leadership skills that she has demonstrated in different ways. Over the past three years at the school she has served as Treasurer, Vice President and President of our student government. Last summer she participated in the highly selective Charles J. Hamm Leadership Program at Phillips Exeter Academy and completed a Capstone Leadership Project of a digital yearbook. In addition over the past five summers she started and run her own business of teaching 15 kids at her horse camp each year the basics of rodeo events and western riding.
Something that I appreciate about Shealie is her involvement in extracurricular activities. She was a member of the Sailor’s Freshman volleyball team and over the past three years has lettered in tennis for the Sailor’s varsity team. In addition she has been actively involved in the Routt County 4-H club over the past 10 years serving in leadership positions with them over the past three years. She also has competed in a number of speed horse events in several Colorado high school rodeos.
One last area which I would like to highlight about Shealie is her heart for missions and service. Among some of the areas of outreach she has been involved in: she has traveled three times to Uganda to help with the organization, Come Let’s Dance, in their orphanage, school, and women’s empowerment program; for the past couple of years Shealie has mentored several 8th grade girls on a weekly basis; in addition she has helped educate our community about autism through her High Point 4-H club. As an administrator it thrills my heart to have young people who understand that real joy in life comes in serving others."
