What a lovely meeting at the Grand's outside event tent.
We were joined by 47 Rotarians and a remarkable 13 guests!

President Mark Fitzgerald shared his Thought for the Day about Kindness:
"One of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon another. When someone is in need, lend tem a helping hand. Do not wait for a thank you. True kindness lies within the act of giving without the expectation of anything in return."

The meeting recording is on Youtube at: https://youtu.be/2ZRdoRN0SvU

We had quite a few announcements:
We had a second reading for prospective new member Andrew Zaback
Board meeting update:
  • The Board accepted Alice Klauzer's request to move to Honorary status
  • The Board is looking at creating more opportunities for club fellowship, which Past President Gillian Morris will be coordinating.
  • Steamboat Springs Hockey Association will be using the dunk tank as part of their fundraising efforts, and as a way to refine the procedures we've put in place
  • President Mark updated the club on newly formalized and recently updated policies: Use of Endowment Fund at YVCF, Operating Reserves, Nonprofits as Club Programs, and Email List Usage (policies available for review on ClubRunner)
  • The club was able to contribute $26,000 this year to our fund at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, a remarkable step as we close in on a balance of $1,000,000.
We still need volunteers for the "Digital Committee", and President Mark needs help beginning this Tuesday with the online broadcast of the meeting for "virtual" members.
Ellen is accepting requests for more pavers at the Rotary Peace Pavilion. She has several members interested already but we need to meet a minimum of 10 pavers to place an order for more.
Ellen also wanted to invite members to the Public Awareness committee meeting on Thursday, 8/19
And lastly, the club was given another opportunity to participate in the Lobsterfest wine pull. If you want to take advantage of wholesale wine prices, please reach out to Carol Johnson - otherwise, bring a bottle with you to the next meeting and it will be added to the pot!

Thank you to our Program, the Alzeheimers Association of Northern Colorado. /did you know/ that Alzheimers Association is the largest non-governmental funder of research in the world? Learn more at https://alz.org
Virtual Member Filip Boelen brought his family to the meeting to join us on his way toward Leadville to pace a runner in the Leadville 100. He was asked to lead Good News and raised $509, along with $154 for LiftUp.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR Shurie Scheel will be joining the club next Tuesday, 8/24. Club members are reminded to stand as the DG is introduced as a formal welcome. We will be back inside at the Steamboat Grand. See you then!
