Meeting Notes - April 9th and April 16th, 2013
Thanks to Matt Lieven and Leslie Gamel who served as our greeters on April 16th, to Glen Traylor for providing the thought for the day, to Rick Bear for leading us in song, and to Brian Harvey for good news. Ben Custer was recognized as student of the month for March, Steve Hitchcock was honored as Rotarian of the Month for April, Debbie Aragon and Karl Bunker noted that Flower Barrels are coming (and you can order yours next week), and Jim Steinberg provided a stunning photographic journey across Central Africa for our program. (Thank you Jim!). Applications for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) for high school students, and for Young RYLA for students entering 8th grade next year, will soon be available. If you know someone that may be interested, please have them contact Sharon Mensing or Holly Larson. Vini and Diana are doing a fundraiser to help pay for their bus trip – it will be May 8th at the Cantina. Tickets are $35, you get a great dinner and entertainment by Vini and Diana. Our new inbound youth exchange student, Sam from Belgium, will be arriving in the fall. If you are able to be a host family, please contact Lynaia South.
Our meeting on April 9th had fantastic contributions to Good News – thanks to Brian Harvey and to everyone who contributed. Thanks also to Kristal Eckley and Mignon Stetman for serving as greeters and to Jane Toothaker for providing the Thought for the Day. Club members recognized Rotarian anniversaries within the club for Alice Klauzer (18 years), Mike Roberts (21 years), Debbie Aragon (16 years), Jim McCreight (11 years), Cam Boyd (13 years), Steve Hitchcock (9 years), Leslie Gamel (3 years), Jenny Wall (3 years) and Greg Stetman (15 years) by singing a rousing rendition of “For S/He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” For our program, Millie Beall and Shiela Henderson provided information on the local immigrant population, the nonprofit organization Integrated Community and the programs they provide to the immigrant community in Steamboat Springs.
Finally - Kudos to everyone involved in the Crutches for Africa drive. The event was a great success and collected over a hundred mobility devices to ship overseas. A special thanks to Leslie Gamel, Paul and Mayling Hebert, and Tara Weiss for all their hard work coordinating and orchestrating the event and developing the poster.
