Meeting notes for October 30th and November 6th, 2012
November 6 was a Rotary Proud meeting, as we were joined by District Governor Mike Forney and his wife Janet Finely in what is Mike’s last visit to the 53 clubs in our District. Mike’s DG speech was the program for the day, and it was an inspirational and impassioned speech about Rotary and being Rotary Proud. Mike awarded Gillian Morris the Quiet Rotarian award, Kristal Eckley with the Outstanding New Member award, and Greg Stetman with the Outstanding Rotary International Foundation supporter award. Mike also recognized the club – with a certificate handed to past president Alice Klauzer – for 2011-2012 year achievements of the club’s being #3 in the District in per capita contributions to Rotary International’s annual fund, as well as for our club’s support of the polio challenge. Mike, with Foundation Chair Greg Stetman awarded Paul Harris Fellows to Rex Brice, Mark Anderson, Chris Stillwell, and Brian Harrington, and Paul Harris Fellows +2 pins to Cam Boyd and Lori Elliott. John Holloway and Jane Denning awarded Mike Forney with the Bequest Society award, for his inclusion of Rotary International in his will at the $10K+ level. Chris Stillwell was recognized as Rotarian of the Month for October for his 20 years of service to the club, which includes many years of coordinating Greeters and setting up the sound system for daily programs. Ellen Kendall provided the Thought for the Day, Geneva Taylor played a version of the Star Spangled Banner in honor of election day, Paula Black and Chris Taylor served as Greeters, Alice Klauzer was our Good News Guru, and the club sang a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to our November birthday folks: Debbie Aragon, Paula Cooper Black, Henry Evans, Grant Fenton, Steve Frasier, Karl Gills, Rod Hanna, Scott Marr, Jim McCreight, Brad Price and Lynaia South.
Our October 30th meeting was equally interesting, with Strings music by Emerald Mountain School students, moving presentations of the proceeds from the Barn Dance to the Boys and Girls Club and Come Let’s Dance, recognition of Annie Ochs as student of the month for October, and a fun classification talk by Kathy Elliott. The PR committee was recognized and commended for their great work on the recent Rotary Action insert. Karl Bunker provided our Thought for the Day, Brad Price and Suzie Hawkins served as Greeters, and Brian Harvey was our Good News guy.
The Boys and Girls club received $16K+ from the Barn Dance, which will benefit their operations greatly. Boys and Girls club students gave, via a video, a moving Thank You message to the club. Come Let’s Dance received $1,600+ from the Barn Dance, and will use the dollars to fund a school bus for their school for orphans in Uganda. Huge thanks go out to the members of the Barn Dance Committee for their hard work and effort on the very successful Barn Dance – Tara Weaver, Ellen Kendall, Carol Parish, Brian Harvey, Kathy Elliott, Paula Cooper Black, Roberta Gill, Randy Rudasics, Lynna Broyles and Meg Boyer.
Next Week – the whole club is doing the 4 way test in the Steamboat Springs Middle School. Please meet at the Middle School at 8 AM – there will be no noon meeting and no singing at the Doak.
