Meeting Notes - July 10, 2012
At the Rotary meeting today Jane Denning called attention to the new Rotary year, whose theme is Peace Through Service, we celebrated July Birthdays, met three of our summer youth exchange students (Grant Verploeg, who will travel to Belgium, his matched student Christoff from Belgium, and Ignazio from Italy who is matched with Peter White), kicked off a new scholarship year with over $400 in Good News graciously solicited by Paula Cooper Black, and were inspired by the the Sunshine Kids program introduced by Cam Boyd and presented by Laura and Brad Cusenbury. We learned that the Sunshine Kids program provides kids who are battling cancer, ages 14-18, with a week of winter activities in Steamboat Springs. Sunshine kids funding comes from the upcoming Tour de Steamboat and from Prudential Realty and its benefit dinners. The Cusenbury's are hopeful that funding will enable a summer program as well as a winter program. The students who come to Steamboat with Sunshine Kids clearly leave an indelible footprint on the people who they meet and whose lives they touch.
The club sends its best wishes for a speedy recovery to Jack Morrison, who suffered a heart attack and is now reportedly doing ok. And we were pleased to learn that Mike Forney's wife, Janet Finley, was released from the hospital after an almost 3 week stay, and that they are now road tripping back to Steamboat from Boston.

- Kristal Eckley is our new program chair. If you have an idea for a program, please let Kristal know about it.
- Paul Hebert is the new team leader for International Services and has several great ideas for International projects.
- Jane Denning is the new chair of the membership committee.
- Mark Anderson is the new Foundation chair - for both our club foundation and the rotary foundation.
- Greg Stetman has agreed to chair a committee that will analyze each of the club's fundraising events with the goal of determining the return on club member time and dollars with our fundraising efforts.
- The Past Presidents, led by Mike Roberts, has agreed to look at our club structure and to come back with recommendations.
- Randy Rudasics and the PR committee have agreed to look at the club's PR efforts to determine how we can use the Rotary Insert, website and facebook page to tell not only our story, but also the larger Rotary International story, all within the framework of club member time and resources.
Tara Weiss noted that the club is looking to raise an additional $700 to finish the interpretive signs for the Rotary Trail. John Fleeker reminded us that with the new Rotary year comes the annual Volunteer Affidavit, which must be completed by every rotarian who will have one on one interaction with a youth through Rotary in the coming year. The Volunteer Affidavit will be sent via email to all members - if you work with youth, print it out, fill it in, and bring it to the next club meeting. The club will pay the fee. Also - a new requirement is that all rotarians who work with you have to have annual training on the District's youth protection policy. To meet this requirement, John will do a youth protection policy training at the July 31 meeting.
I am really excited about serving as president of the club this year and am thrilled to be part of a great team. My personal goal for the year is to develop clubrunner as a useful tool for the club and to focus on communication - with reporting out what is happening at the board meetings and at the club meetings through the clubrunner ebulletin. Since communication needs to be both directions, I would love to have you stop me to chat, email me, or otherwise let me know what you think is going well and also what isn't. Our club's big project for the next two years is the 2013 District Conference, which has Scott Marr at the helm and will take virtually every member of our club to host. The board will also be working on addressing priorities from the board retreat.
