Meeting Notes - March 26th and April 2nd
Mignon Stetman provided the thought for the day at our meeting on March 26th, while Alice Klauzer led the club in song, Tom Kern and David Scully served as greeters, and Dan Bonner was our good news guru. Meg Boyer was recognized as Rotarian of the Month for March, and Rich Gloor was inducted as a new member of our club. Rich is a long time Rotarian who has visited us regularly over the years and transferred his membership to our club upon moving to Steamboat Springs. Welcome Rich! Our program was provided by our local interact students and focused on their experience in travelling to our sister club in Agua Prieta, Mexico, to meet with Rotarians and Interactors, deliver gifts to orphans in four orphanages, and see the club’s project for this year – installation of a new water pump in one of the orphanage’s water collection systems in Agua Prieta. Our project enabled the orphanage to provide potable water to the children in their care. Through their lively photos and stories we were able to see the enormous positive impact that this trip and sister club relationship has on our young people.
Kathie Sack provided the thought for day at our April 2 meeting, with Jane Denning and Kristal Eckley serving as greeters, John Centner was our good news guru, and Chrissie Hodges providing a program that focused on mental illness. The club recognized Rotarians with April birthdays by singing Happy Birthday to David Scully, Sam Haslem, Jim Nowak, Peter Perhac, Randy Rudasics, Jay Fetcher, Brian Harvey, Todd Hayes, Rex Brice, Leslie Gamel and Mike Forney. Note that Same, Jim, Peter and Randy all celebrate their birthdays on April 9th! Marci Valicenti was inducted into the club – Welcome! Kerry Shea and John Holloway were welcomed back from their respective Leaves of Absence, Mayling Hebert was recognized for her submitting an application to be a volunteer on a vocational team focusing on water projects in Kenya for a month this summer. Tara Weaver reminded club members that we were doing the Crutches for Africa project and asked for volunteers to assist in collecting mobility devises. Lynaia South updated the club on youth exchange and noted that our new inbound youth exchange student is Sam from Belgium. Sam is interested in swimming, climbing, snowboarding, music and gymnastics. The club needs to find three host families for Sam – approximately 3 ½ months each (fall, winter, spring). If you can open your home to this great student, please contact Lynaia.
