Meeting Notes - Nov 8, 2016

New member classification talks are among my favorite meetings.  Yesterday’s presentations by Celina Taylor and Meg Morse were no exceptions.  Every time I hear of the accomplishments of our members I come away more impressed with our club and proud of the people in it.

At yesterday’s meeting we also collected $118 for Lift Up along with a table full of holiday donations of food.

We have several upcoming events and projects to keep in mind:

Tomorrow night:  The Rotary Foundation Centennial Celebration.  Scott Marr announced that we have 140 people attending and it should be a lot of fun with a great meal and live music in addition to a couple of inspiring speakers.  (Hint, if you are not signed up, we can probably add a couple of chairs!)

The Community Holiday Tubing Party is coming up.  The date is not finalized yet but I know that the event organizers Dillon Fulcher, Lori Livingston & Ian Engle would be thrilled to have anyone who would like to join their committee.  If you have been looking for a project to join this would be a good one.

The Grants Committee led by Jeremy Behling has announced the beginning of a new grant cycle.  Our club grant application can be found here:   http://portal.clubrunner.ca/3667  on the lower right side of the page under the heading “Home Page Download Files” you will find “Community Grant Application”.  If you are involved with a 501C3 qualified group that might like to apply for a grant please direct them to this application.  If you would like to be involved with this committee please contact Jeremy.

Kris Hammond also circulated a sign-up for members who may be interested in going the Agua Prieta trip this year over MLK weekend with our Interact club.  I attended the organizational meeting at the high school the other night and it is a great bunch of kids!  If you missed the meeting but are interested in this trip please reach out to Kris.

Our club holiday party will be on December 13 at Sake2U.  Look for more info from organizers Alice Klauzer and her party team…. But for now, get it on your calendar!

We have wrapped up our push to get the club endowment over the 500K goal.  Members gave $7,875 taking advantage of the matching funds from the club which take the total we sent to the endowment this week to more than $15,000 and resulted in 25 new Jack Black Fellowship award levels reached!  I will report the new balance in our foundation as of the end of October when we get that info, but this bump should put us over the goal.

Our regular Board of Directors Meeting will be Monday at 12:00 at Rex’s.  Always a good way to stay informed about the club and pick up a make-up!

Again, I wish to thank our membership for avoiding the temptation of bringing political passions into the club.  We exist to serve our community and the world and we do a better job of that when political issues are left at the door.
