Meeting Notes - October 16 and 23

At the meeting last week, Brad Meeks provided our thought for the day, Jenny Wall and Coleman Cook served as our greeters, and Jane Denning was our good news person.  We celebrated October birthdays for Sue Birch, Kristal Eckley, John Holloway, Bill Kennedy, Alice Klauzer, Eric Rabesa and John Centner.  And for the program, we heard from RYLA student Meg O’Connell and Young RYLA students Emily Wertz, Kristina Steinberg, and Nicole Zedeck.  The students spoke of their RYLA experiences and what they learned about leadership and themselves.  RYLA was a life transforming experience for each student.  Many thanks to Sharon Mensing for setting up the program and to Sharon Mensing and Holly Larson for making RYLA happen within our club and community.

At the meeting today, Meg Boyer provided our thought for the day, Karl Bunker and PJ Wharton served as greeters, and John Centner was our good news person.  Alice Klauzer led the club in “For s/he’s a Jolly Good Fellow” in honor of Rotarian membership anniversaries in the club for Jeremy Behling (4 years), Dan Callahan (8+ years), Kristal Eckley (1 year), Steve Frasier (12 years), Brian Harrington (7 years), Suzie Hawkins (13 years), Ellen Kendall (11 years), Holly Larson (6 years), Sharon Mensing (1 year), Peter Perhad (1 year) and Chris Stillwell (20 years).  Short Term Youth Exchange Student Kathleen O’Connell introduced both herself and her visiting exchange student Lissy, from Germany, and both girls thanked the club for supporting their exchange.  Our program focused on youth exchange students Vini from Brazil and Diana from Mexico – it was great to learn a little about the students and their home countries.  Many thanks to their current host families (the Nelson family and the Brice family) and the counselors (Kris Hammond and Tracy Barnett.) for all their support of the students.  In announcements:

* Jane Denning encouraged club members to become RI Benefactors by including Rotary International in their will or life insurance policies,

*Randy Rudasics thanked the PR committee for all of their effort on the Insert, which will be in the paper Friday,

Finally, the District Conference Committee, under the leadership of Scott Marr and Mike Forney, provided information about what to expect from the 2013 District Conference, to be held in Steamboat Springs.  The conference is our club’s major project for the year and we are looking for 100% participation from the club in volunteering.  In addition, the conference will be both educational and entertaining – so we encourage 100% of club members to attend and have budgeted funds to enable every member to attend a portion of the conference.
