Meeting Notes - September 25, 2012

At the Rotary meeting today, Meg Boyer and Dave Wittlinger served as our greeters, John Fleeker provided a sports oriented Thought for the Day, and Kris Hammond served as our Good News arbiter.  Much of the Good News revolved around the successful Barn Dance event, with much thanks to the committee and volunteers for making the event a success.  Our program - an election forum for CU Regent, Senate District 8, and House District 26 candidates - was entertaining and educational.  We heard from Glenn Gallegos (candidate for CU Regent), Emily Tracy and Randy Baumgardner (candidates for Senate District 8) and Diane Mitsch-Bush and Chuck McConnell (candidatees for House District 26).  Many thanks to Geneva Taylor for putting together and moderating the forum and to Sharon Mensing for assisting with timing. 

During announcements, the club:

* Recognized Skyler Kauf as Student of the Month for September  (congratulations to Skyler and his family!)

* Was reminded that Rotary Insert photos and news items are due this Friday to Randy Rudasics.  The club is looking for two members to sponsor the insert - which is $550 for sponsorship of three inserts.  Sponsors are recognized on the inside page of the insert.  Please contact Randy Rudasics if you can assist.

* Learned that year long youth exchange applications are due to Lynaia South on October 8

* Signed up for Greeter and Thought for the Day duties (thanks to Chris Stillwell and Alice Klauzer for coordinating these!)

* Signed up to help review senior projects at the High School - contact Bill Kennedy if you can help out.

* Learned of District Governor Elect Julie Phares effort to gain enough signatures to secure a Colorado license plate featuring Rotary International.  If you are interested in supporting this effort with your signature, the support/signature sheet will be at the next meeting.

* Was reminded that the Rotary District Fall Assembly will be held Saturday, October 20th in Laramie.  Our club still needs one or two more folks to attend - so if you can dedicate a Saturday to Rotary, please let Winnie know.

* Learned that Quinn Cain and Ben Wharton will serve as co-Presidents of the Interact club this year.

* Gave huge kudos to the Barn Dance committee for an incredible event - there were 526 people at the Barn Dance this year!
