Meeting Notes – January 8th, 15th, and 22nd
The Rotary World Café held at Rex’s this past Tuesday, in lieu of our regular meeting, was a great event – it provided depth of information on all that our club and Rotary International do in the areas of Community Service, International Service, Polio Plus, Youth, fundraising and fellowship. Plus the event was a ton of fun – with great conversations all around. Over a dozen potential Rotarians (including some former Rotarians) attended to follow up on their interest in learning more about Rotary International and in connecting with our club. Many, many thanks to the membership committee – Jane Denning, Ellen Kendall, Alice Klauzer, Scott Marr, Brent Boyer, Holly Rogers and Mike Roberts) for conceiving of the world café concept and event.
In our meeting on January 15th at the Grand, Ellen Kendall and Alice Klauzer greeted everyone, Jane Denning provided our thought for the day, Brian Harvey was our good news guy, and Jeremy Behling led the club in a rousing rendition of “They are Jolly Good Fellows” to Rotarians celebrating anniversaries within the club. Cheers to Lynna Broyles (1 year), Jeff Swoyer (28 years), Chris Taylor (1 year), Holly Rogers (8 years), John Centner (15 years), Todd Hayes (2 years), Dennis Podzemny (2 years), Paxton Jones (3 years), Ashley VanNess (3 years), Dave Wittlinger (2 years), and Grant Fenton (4 years) for their years of service – we couldn’t do it without you. During announcements, club members supported a district application to host a Zone Institute in September 2014 and thanked servers Nancy Moroli, Jill Glazier and Karie Shelter for all of their work over the past year providing us with lunch service. Suzanne Schlicht solicited members to host a dinner for Rotarians on May 30 as a part of the district conference – if you can help, please contact Suzanne. Finally, our program consisted of Police Chief Joel Rae, who provided an update on the City’s process and current status in terms of fire and police facilities.
Our meeting on January 8 was held at Sweetwater Grill – thanks to Joe and the Sweetwater crew for a delicious lunch. Paul Hebert provided our thought for the day, Ashley VanNess served as greeter, Kris Hammond led the song, and David Lamb was our good news guy. Mayling Herbert talked about the prevalence of disabled people in Africa, and the need for crutches – and thus of the club’s upcoming “Crutches for Africa” drive. Erik Gripentroeg was recognized as Rotarian of the Month for December, and Holly Larsen solicited donations to assist the Interact students with their trip to Agua Prieta. A round of applause to the folks that stepped up to help the students!!!
