Karen Schneider raised $568 through Good News. Geneva Taylor was honored repeatedly through stories and many $32 donations - a dollar for each year she was a member of our Rotary club.
Our program was a Q&A with Colorado Senate District 8 candidates Bob Rankin and Karl Hanlon followed by Mike Foote and Steve Hofman, representatives from both sides of Proposition 113. Thank you to Marje Tracy for tackling our political forums this year! The last two weeks were well run, with thoughtful, challenging questions. The expectation of respect, both for and from the candidates, was set early, and the audience was able to enjoy two weeks of cordial, respectful politics!

Steve Weiss is hosting his last Pickleball Mixer this Thursday from 4:30-6:00 PM at the Tennis Center. He will be providing beer, water, and courts, and the Tennis Center will be providing the balls and rackets. Just bring yourself (and a mask in case we need to play inside). No experience needed and no expectations either! Just join us for some good laughs!
Lori Livingston has been reaching out to our community to find out how Rotarians can exercise our “Service Above Self” during this time. Please take some time to consider if you are a fit for any of the below needs!
- Lift Up is in need of volunteers to work the food bank – stocking shelves, packing boxes, and helping customers. They have a strict mitigation plan and provide a safe, fun, and flexible work environment. THE NEED RIGHT NOW IS OVERWHELMING! If you are interested please call Sharon Farquhar at 970-875-3447.
- Partners is offering a new Volunteer School Based Mentoring Program to serve youth in the face of the pandemic and help mitigate the negative impact on students, families, and teachers. Interested adults and older youth (approximately 16 years and older) are encouraged to apply! Mentors will be screened and trained prior to being matched with a student, 3rd-12th grade. Partners will work with the mentor, mentee and parent to arrange weekly regular check-ins. We ask that mentors spend a total of one hour per week with their mentees, often broken into shorter sessions. These can take place virtually or in-person; Partners’ has established Covid-19 safety protocols for our youth room. All matches are carefully supervised and supported, and mentor trainings are provided throughout the year. Here is a link to the application and well as more information on the website. There will be a visitation for Geneva Taylor on Friday, October 23rd at Yampa Valley Funeral Home and a Graveside Service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 24th at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
