Announcements: 

Music by our very own Angie Gamble: Angie played and sang some wonderful music as we gathered at the Peace Pavilion. Thank you, Angie for sharing your talent and entertaining us!

Yay Volunteers: Big shout out to all those Rotarians that volunteered this past weekend at the Rotary Aid Station (at Rotary Trailhead) for the Emerald Mountain Epic. Was a super fun way to support the two benefitting non-profits, Routt County Riders and Partners for Youth. Thank you to Matthew Rochon for organizing! 

August Rotary Social Event: Kerry Shea has organized our August Social Event on August 21st from 4:00-6:00pm at Hazie's at the top of the mountain. $20/person for heavy apps and there will be a cash bar. RSVP to Kerry (kerry@1700steamboat.com) if you'd like to get in on this! 

Rotary Park Cleaners: Jen Bruen and Steve Sehnert are on for cleaning the park this Thursday, August 13th. Thanks for everyone for signing up and keeping our park clean!

Community Service Committe: Teresa Weinman has volunteered to chair a service committee. The committee will meet next week Aug 17th at 11:15am prior to the noon meeting. If you are interested in this committee or have service ideas reach out to Teresa. 

Rotary Cares: David Box's heart surgery went well and he is recovering as expected. He will be released from the hospital tomorrow. David is not eating much right now; Diana said meals would be nice but not needed until next week. Program: Amy Moon Rotary District 5440 Governor Elect Amy Moon congratulated the club on its 52nd anniversary.  Amy will serve as District Governor for District 5440 for the year 2027-2028 and is a member of the Rotary Club of Star Valley in NW Wyoming.  During her presentation, Amy congratulated the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club for being the top club in the district for membership growth in 2025-2026.  She challenged our club to continue to add members, as well as to retain existing members by connecting every member into various club projects.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, August 18th at the Community Center at noon. We'll be hearing from the Steamboat Soccer Club!

Jack Morrison Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Scott Marr!

Scott Marr was awarded the Jack Morrison Lifetime Achievement Award at the meeting. He was surprised, and Lynne Marr, Brandon & Kate Marr, Poppy (Scott's granddaughter), and friends visiting from Florida joined us for the award. Read below a letter from former member, Ellen Kendall, about why Scott was chosen for this prestigious award:

Dear Rotarians 

How I wish I could be there for this meeting, as it was my plan until my grandson’s wedding in Ohio was planned in August.  I wanted to see y’all (I’m learning to speak Southern) especially on what I always found a special meeting – Our Club anniversary in the Peace Pavilion.   

Speaking of the Peace Pavilion – did you know that coming up with a major legacy project for our Club’s 40^th Anniversary was mandated by  Past President Scott Marr? 

So the building of the Peace Pavilion was begun! Scott also spearheaded the fundraising efforts  for the Pavilion to the tune of $150,000 – which included the idea of the peace pavers. 

And speaking of Scott Marr:  Do you have any idea how many leadership roles he has taken on in this Club? Like:

• President in 2013-14. Famously known for his recognition “gold stars” placed on member badges and other contributions of course
• Treasurer – 5 years
• Club Membership Chair for several years – during which he started the Orientation process which continues today –
• Foundation Chair – 11 years

And yep, there’s more: 

In addition to his taking on leadership roles, he has stepped up with financial support:

Such as:  Sponsoring virtually all Fundraising Events, He is a Jack Black Fellow (20 times)

for our Club Endownment – a Paul Harris+10 Fellow for the RI Foundation 

He has supported our District 5440 through Chairing not one but two District Conferences

And he is a consistently engaged member with attendance and volunteering for all things Rotary! 

Oh yes, I could go on….but I know the attention span of our members isn’t always the longest.

SO ALL of this is say …and I know you will agree -  Scott Marr absolutely positively exemplifies a Lifetime of Service to this club and therefore I am both honored and thrilled for Carol  to present to Scott the 2026 Jack Morrison Lifetime Achievement Award! ….Congratulations and Hugs Scott!! Ellen

Matches have been sent out for the month of August – have fun with it! Many of you have already met up with your assigned match and we're loving hearing the stories. Big shout out to Kim Hix for bringing this idea to the Club and organizing!

Rotarian Meet-Up: One New Connection Each Month!

Have you ever looked around a Rotary meeting and realized there are members you've never really gotten to know? Maybe you've exchanged a quick hello, but never had the chance to sit down and hear their story.  Maybe you are an Impact Member and haven't had the opportunities to meet other Rotarians or learn about ways to get more involved.  All Rotarians, here is a great new way to expand on your knowledge, volunteer and friendship opportunities--and it is oh, so simple!

We're launching a monthly Rotarian Meet-Up—a fun, informal opportunity to connect one-on-one with a different fellow Rotarian each month. Meet for coffee, lunch, a walk, happy hour, a hike, bowling, skiing—or whatever sounds enjoyable and fits both of your schedules. Keep it simple or make it an adventure!

Along the way, you might:

• Make a new Rotary friend.
• Learn what inspired someone to join Rotary.
• Discover ways to become more involved in the club.
• Find a committee you'd enjoy serving on.
• Share ideas that can make our club even better.

How it works:

1. Sign up here
2. Each month, I'll randomly pair you with another participating Rotarian.  The list will be published each month.
3. Find your name and your new Meet-Up partner.  Reach out to each other and together you choose a time, place, and activity that works for both of you.
4. That's it!

This is simply a fellowship opportunity, so any expenses (coffee, lunch, etc.) are paid individually by each participant.

If your schedules don't line up one month, no worries! Feel free to connect later with that same partner, or simply wait for next month's pairing.

You only need to sign up one time.  Again, I will publish new pairings each month for everyone who has signed up.

Most importantly, this is about having fun, strengthening our club, and building friendships—one conversation at a time.

Committee Spotlight:

Committee: Rotary Flower Barrel Fundraiser

Function: This fundraiser's function is to beautify our downtown and other business locations (as well as local's homes) with Rotary Flower Barrels and Hanging Baskets. We buy 200 flower barrels and 75 flower baskets from a grower and sell them in the Spring. All Rotarians come together in early June for flower delivery and then in September we get together and pick them all back up. Some of the BEST fellowship happens at delivery and pick up. 

Meeting times: The committee usually meets maybe once, but there is behind the scenes work that happen and communciations via email/phone.
