October 2022 Rotary Community Needs Grants: $10,205

Totally Kids, Inc $1,500. To help fund their mini camp for upper elementary / middle school student for Summer 2023 in the Hayden area. Camp runs 12 weeks, 3 days a week and will serve ideally 20+ kids. The older kids being separated from the younger day campers allows them to have more age appropriate experiences and help them build a community with common aged youth.

Steamboat Springs Middle School $2,000. To purchase 5 floor microphones for theatrical productions at the Steamboat Springs Middle School. The addition of these microphones will allow for better amplification so that the voices of the students performing can be heard at all times during their performance.

Junior Achievement - Rocky Mountains $2,000. To help implement JA programs in Routt County middle schools that focus on Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Career Readiness for the 2022-2023 school year. Rotary’s funding will cover the program costs for 50 students.

Northwest Colorado Health $2,000. Help support Northwest Colorado Health's Foot Care for older adults program. Oftentimes, older adults are unable to care for their feet due to their inability to reach them, or have the strength of dexterity for basic foot care. Foot Care clinics are provided by a Registered Nurses and this is the only organization providing this service in the region, and is provided regardless of ability to pay.

North Routt Community Charter School $2,000. To pilot a new universal breakfast program for all students for the 2022/2023 school year. Staff observations note an increasing number of students who arrive at school without have had a breakfast at home. Research shows that a nutritious breakfast can improve focus and behavior; reduce risk of obesity, dental cavities, and chronic health conditions; improve grades, test scores; and increase attendance rates. Grant funds will allow for all students to participate in a daily community breakfast of warm oatmeal and fruit. A healthy universal breakfast program will allow all NRCCS students to come to class ready to learn, in an inclusive program that doesn’t stigmatize the food insecure population.

Colorado New Play Festival $705. To help fund the translation app and videographer for Colorado New Play Festival's Playwright Slam. A professional writer will be mentoring aspiring young writers from the Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Colorado as they create original written works that will then be read on stage by professional actors. The translation app allows for real-time translation from English into 40 different languages, making Playwright Slam accessible to families for whom English is a second language. The videographer will allow them to record the Slam to share with the young writers who are not able to attend, as well as their families.
