Board report - September 2012

At the September meeting, the Rotary board reviewed club financials and voted to transfer $10,000 from the club’s retained earnings (reserve) to the Club’s endowment at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.  This will bring the total funds in the club’s endowment to $300,000.  John Holloway was granted a short leave of absence and Eric Rabesa’s application for membership in the club was approved, with Mike Roberts, Dan Hagney, and Eric Gripentroeg as sponsors.  Mike Forney spoke about the upcoming District Assembly in Laramie on Saturday, October 20^th.  Our club has committed to sending five members to the assembly – it will be a great event and folks are encouraged to attend.  Randy Rudasics presented the PR committee’s plan for the year, which includes sending out press releases for student of the month, grants awarded, and new Rotarians, as well as shortening the Rotary Action Insert from 16 pages to 12 pages and moving community information to the front of the insert.  The PR committee is looking for one or two new members to assist with their activities, and may be looking for one or two more Rotary Action sponsors.  Eric Gripentroeg provided an update on the Community Holiday / Sledding Party, which is a 30+ year old community event now sponsored by the club.  The event is held at Howelsen Hill and is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, December 16.  The board heard an update on the research being done by Steve Hitchcock on a new fundraising/service idea – the board liked the idea and referred it to the fundraising analysis committee for further evaluation.  The Club’s holiday party will be held in the evening on December 11^th, and the board decided to cancel the December 25^th and January 1 meetings.
