Thanks to everyone who joined our meeting on Tuesday!  We had 61 people total, including 57 Steamboat Rotarians, 3 guests, and our speaker on the call.
 
Thank you Jim Steinberg for providing Thoughts for the Day, focused on the passage of time after recognizing that everyday seems like Groundhog Day during our 334 days (now 335) of COVID.
 
Leo Tolstoy wrote in War & Peace "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time."

Douglas Adams wrote in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe "Time is Nature’s way of keeping everything from happening at once."

Today's program was Seth Itzkan from Soil 4 Climate. https://www.soil4climate.org/. Seth founded Soil 4 Climate in 2015.  The organization advocates for soil as a climate solution, but also as food, water, and cultural integrity solutions.  The conversation could have continued for another hour as there were so many questions for Seth, and several Rotarians made their own recommendations to accompany Seth's presentation.  Below are a few:

Announcements and Upcoming:
 
Secretary: Please make sure to give a big thank you to Holly Rogers and Tiffany Leeson.  After serving as secretary for 5 years, Holly has been training Tiffany to take over.  They both felt that they were ready to transition, so on Monday, the Board of Directors accepted Holly's resignation as secretary and welcomed Tiffany into the position.  Thanks, Holly, for all you have done over the last several years as secretary.  Thanks, Tiffany, for taking on this responsibility!
 
New Members: Tiffany Leeson did a first reading for new members Chuck Cerasoli and Sarah Loughran.  If you have any concerns or objections, please email those to Tiffany.  Please also reach out to these new members to get to know them better, invite them to committee meetings, Pickleball mixers, or any other way you can help engage them!
 
Rotary Ski Day: John Holloway has reserved March 16 for the Rotary Ski Day.  Everyone keep your fingers crossed and your distance so that we gather and ski together by then!
 
February Happy Hour - February 22:  Mark your calendar for a fun virtual happy hour hosted by Karl Gills.  More info including time and login to follow!
 
RYLA: Ian Engle announced that in person RYLA and Young RYLA have been canceled this year.  Virtual options are being discussed and he will keep us informed as he hears more details.
 
Bylaws Revisions: Karl Gills has spearheaded a review and revision of the club's Bylaws.  The recommended Bylaws have been approved by the Board of Directors and now needs to be approved by the club.  Karl will be sending out the revision later this week and there will be a vote by the membership on February 23.  Please send any comments to Karl Gills and be sure to be on the call on the 23rd.  We need 33% of membership on the call and a majority vote to pass.  Thanks to Karl for all of the time he has put into this!
  
Snowmobile Poker Run, Saturday, March 20th: Eric Rabesa and Brett Allison are working on a new fundraiser/community event- a Snowmobile Poker Run.  Please reach out to them if you would like to help with the event or sponsor!
 
Pickleball Happy Hours: Loretta Conway is putting together more Rotary Happy Hour Pickleball on the last Tuesdays of February (23rd), March (30th) and April (27th) from 5-6:30 for 8 players maximum. Cost is $5 per person and preregistration is required. Preregister by calling 879-8400 or emailing loretta@steamboat10s.com.
 
Moon Hill Dairy Fundraiser: John Weibel is hosting another Farm to Table Fundraiser at Moon Hill Dairy this summer (my favorite dinner of the summer!)  He is looking for help coordinating volunteers.  If you would like to help him, please shoot him an email.

Rotary International is hosting a titled Exploring the Black Experience in Rotary on Feb 25 3:00PM (Chicago Time)/2:00 PM Mountain Time
Through hearing stories of Black Rotarians around the word, we will:
- Open ourselves to talking about race and identity.
- Become aware and acknowledge how our own social identities impact the club and community experience.
- Allow space for all Rotarians to bring their full, most authentic selves to our organization.
 
The Rotary Club of Ft. Collins https://www.rotarycluboffortcollins.org/ invites you to their three part series about racial inclusion on Wednesdays at noon titled "The Radical Center: Building Bridges Across a Red-Blue America". 
 
Today's speaker is Dr. Melba Pattillo Beals, who will share her experience as one of the Little Rock Nine, a group of nine African American students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957.  Beals will be introduced by Stacy Plemmons. Their enrollment was followed by the Little Rock Crisis, in which the students were initially prevented from entering the racially segregated school by Orval Faubus, the Governor of Arkansas. After President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent a 101st Airborne division as escorts, the students were able to attend.  If you would like to attend any of these, please RSVP at info@rotarycluboffortcollins.org
