Geneva Taylor organized and orchestrated the first of our two Election Forum Meetings with her customary grace and aplomb. We heard from the contested Routt County Commissioner candidates, Cari Hermacinski and Steve Ivancie. Candidates for Routt County Coroner, Darrel Levingston and Rob Ryg, (represented by Sheriff, Garrett Wiggins) addressed us, as did the candidates for Routt County Treasurer, Brita Horn and Nikkie Knoebel. Thank you candidates for meeting with us and sharing your views on the issues. Thank you to Geneva for all your efforts in putting the Forum together. Thank you P.J. Wharton for serving as time-keeper. Our second Election Forum Meeting is Tuesday, October 7, 2014.
Rich Gloor and Debbie Aragon served as our Greeters and introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians. Thank you Debbie and Rich.
We recognized and did a Club Flag Exchange with a large delegation from the Lake Conroe, Texas Rotary Club.
Eric Rabesa gave us the Thought for the Day, thank you Eric.
Good News was capably handled by Brian Harvey – thank you, Brian.
We recognized and thanked the Flower Barrel pick-up crew.
We also thanked Mark Fitzgerald for making available the Butcherknife Brewery for our meeting the preceding week and the tour of the Brewery as our Program. Mark’s Dad was also in attendance at the meeting and we welcomed him.
Paul Hebert is looking for help on the Kirkau Water and Sanitation Project in Kenya.
We recognized Eliza Leeson, Steamboat Springs High School as Student of the Month. Thank you to P.J. Wharton for doing the honors.
We also recognized John Kuhn for all his work on the Peace Pavilion Fund-Raising Committee as Rotarian of the Month.
John also sought interest among Club members to go Clay Shooting one day and asked that I share the following with you:
Rotarian's are planning to get out and enjoy some fellowship on Thursday, October 16th 3PM at the inaugural Sporting Clays shoot. Location is yet to be finalized but chances are good we will attend the Three Quarter Circle Sporting Clays course just west of town.
By the show of support (we had 20 sign up at the meeting) this should be a well attended event and a lot of fun for shooters as well as those that never have shot before.
Cost is estimated to be $50.00 which includes the range fee, targets, shells, as well as beer and appetizers AFTER the shoot...

We will have safety and gun training and range officers on site for a safe enjoyable event and even if you’ve never shot before this would be a great place to try something new and enjoy some time with fellow Rotarians after the busy summer we’ve just enjoyed. Friends, spouses, and prospective new Rotary members are welcome and encouraged...John just needs a count if you plan on shooting.
If you can’t make it or don’t want to shoot please join us for Happy Hour afterwards. Again, John will need a count for that too for planning purposes.
After the meeting, a delegation of us went to Casey’s Pond and toasted Dave Zabel, as he attained Honorary Member status.
