Meeting Notes - March 12th & 19th, 2013

In our meeting today Mark Anderson and Scott Marr served as greeters, Kris Hammond led the club in the national anthem as our song for the day, David Scully provided several quotes as our thought for the day, and Debbie Aragon served as our good news guru.  Scott Marr announced that registration for the district conference through the club – with the club paying half the registration fee, is now available.  The conference will be great and will provide lots of inspiring stories of Rotary International – with a wonderful line up of speakers and activities.  To register, fill out a registration form and return it to Scott Marr, Winnie DelliQuadri, Angela Catterson or Kathie Sack.  Mignon Stetman invited club members to join the Ski Town Golf Classic Auction Committee, and Steve Hitchcock provided a second reading for Rich Gloor and Marci Valicenti.  Finally, treasurer Bill Kennedy has announced his resignation from the club as he is moving to Fort Collins.  A big thank you to Bill for his service to the club, and also thanks to Greg Stetman for agreeing to move into the treasurer’s position immediately.  (If you have a question for the treasurer, please contact Greg.)

Rod Hanna, with guest Loris Werner, provided our program for the day – a retrospective on the 50 year history of the Steamboat Ski Area.  Rod worked in the marketing department at the ski area from 1975 to 2000 when he retired as senior vice president of marketing.  The retrospective included the history of the development of the Steamboat Ski Area, as well as photos of the mountain from the Quarry on Emerald, which showed how the base and mountain area developed over the years.

At our meeting last week, Lynaia South served as greeter, Kristal Eckley provided the thought for the day, Brian Harvey was our good news guy, and the club sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” to members celebrating anniversaries in the club – Rod Hanna (30 years), Jim Nowak (25 years), Coleman Cook (13 years), Anita Dinello (2 years), Paul Hebert (2 years), Erik Gripentroeg (1 year), Kathie Sack (1 year).  In addition, Tara Weaver announced that we have a new location for the Barn Dance (with major thanks to the Bender Family) and Greg Stetman was honored as Rotarian of the Month for February for his many efforts and activities, including heading up the dues and fees committee, reinvigorating the foundation committee, updating the rotary honor board, and serving on the board.  In lieu of a program, the club had it’s annual SKI DAY, with much fun had by all in attendance and with many prizes awarded.  Check out the club facebook page for photos…..
